What is a Pre-Trial Conference in Georgia?

A pre-trial conference is typically the last court date before jury selection and trial of your case. If the case is a felony that will be heard in Superior Court, then this court date is often called a “calendar call” date.

Preparing For Pre-Trial

Most courts will not accept a negotiated plea after the pre-trial conference day. In other words, if you do not resolve your case by this deadline, then your only remaining options are a trial or an open-ended plea where the judge alone would determine the sentence. If you do not want a trial, then you could be left pleading to the judge for mercy and knowing that he could sentence you to anything from straight probation to 10 years in prison. That is not a good situation to be in!
