Response to Police Questioning in Savannah

Question: If the police ask me to come in and answer a few questions, how should I respond?

Answer:  This happens all the time in Savannah. When the police are doing an investigation, and you may get a friendly phone call to say, “Hey, we just want you to come in and answer a few questions—just doing a routine investigation.” The police are not your friends in that regard, and you will never help yourself out by going into a police investigation freely. Normally, if someone calls me, I will intervene, call the police myself and tell them that we will not answer any questions unless there is some sort of something in writing, some sort of agreement or something to protect us from any incrimination or unless it’s very clear as to what they want. It’s never a good idea to try to answer questions from the police.
